The mission of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth
Circuit Branch of the Historical Society of the United States Courts
in the Eighth Circuit is to collect and preserve historical
information, data, documents, artwork, writings, artifacts and the like of the
Court of Appeals, conduct projects, keep and exhibit collections, hold exhibits,
prepare and distribute publications, and engage in such other activities as
appropriate to celebrate and educate the public as the history of the United
States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
Eighth Circuit History
The Court of Appeals Branch led the project to publish a full-length
written history of the Eighth Circuit.
John F. Dillon Writing
Competition The Dillon Inn of Court in Davenport,
Iowa sponsors a law student writing competition at the
University of Iowa College of Law in honor of John F. Dillon,
circuit judge from 1869 to 1879.

Eighth Circuit Reading Lists
The Court of Appeals Branch has undertaken an ongoing project of
compiling a bibliography of articles and other written materials
concerning the lives and careers of the individuals who have served
as judges on the Eighth Circuit.
