Judge Scott O. Wright receives commemorative flag for military service

The Hon. Scott O. Wright, U.S. District Judge for the Western District of Missouri, received a very special gift to commemorate his 91st birthday. University of South Dakota law professor Roger Baron sent him a flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. in honor of the judge’s Marine Corps service in WWII and his 34 years as a federal judge.

Mr. Baron originally contacted Judge Wright because he was putting together a seminar on WWII for Veterans Day and he wanted to interview Judge Wright. They became phone acquaintances and when Mr. Baron found out Judge Wright’s birthday was January 15, he asked his Senator, Tim Johnson, to fly the flag over the Capitol in Judge Wright’s honor. The flag and accompanying certificate were received a few days after his birthday. However, Judge Wright said this was one of the best gifts he has ever received.
