New Judge for the Eastern District of Missouri: John A. Ross

On September 20, 2011, the Senate confirmed John A. Ross as a U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Missouri. He fills the vacancy created when Judge Charles Shaw took senior status.

Judge Ross was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He received his undergraduate degree from Emory University in 1976 in and his law degree from Emory University Law School in 1979. He began his legal career as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for St. Louis County, where he later served as Chief Trial Attorney from 1988 to 1991. In 1989 he also served as Special Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for St. Charles County. From 1991 to 2000 he served as County Counselor for St. Louis County. Since 2000 he has served as a judge for the St. Louis County Circuit Court, also known as the 21st Circuit Court of Missouri. He has served as the courtís presiding judge since 2009. Judge Ross has also been affiliated with the Weinman Shelter for abused women in St. Louis County, and with the St. Louis County Domestic and Family Violence Council, which works to promote awareness, prevention, intervention and treatment for domestic violence.

He was sworn in on October 14th. Welcome, Judge Ross!
