New Bankruptcy Judge for Western District of Missouri: Dennis R. Dow

On November 10, 2003, Dennis R. Dow was sworn in as a bankruptcy judge for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Missouri. Judge Dow succeeds Judge Frank W. Koger who passed away in January.

Dennis R. Dow was born in Sapporo, Japan. He received his bachelor's degree with high honors in 1975 from the University of Wyoming. He attended law school at Washburn University School of Law in Topeka, Kansas, where he served as Notes Editor of the Washburn Law Journal. He graduated magna cum laude in 1978.

After graduating from law school he went to work at the firm of Shook, Hardy, and Bacon in Kansas City, Missouri, where he has practiced until his appointment to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. His practice focused on products liability and a variety of issues involving individual and corporate bankruptcies. He also supervised a team of lawyers at the firm who act as regional counsel to a large national retailer and provider of consumer credit.

He was listed in The Best Lawyers in America in the area of bankruptcy law continuously from 1995 to 2000. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Missouri Bar, the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, and the American Bankruptcy Institute, where he has been serving as Co-Vice Chair of the Consumer Bankruptcy Committee. Judge Dow's investiture will take place on December 19, 2003. Welcome to the court family, Judge Dow!
