New Bankruptcy Judge for Western District of Missouri: Cynthia Norton

Chief Judge William J. Riley of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, recently announced the appointment of Cynthia Norton of Lawrence, Kansas, as a United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Western District of Missouri.

This appointment became effective February 1, 2013 and fills the vacancy created by the retirement of the Judge Jerry W. Venters on January 31, 2013. The judge and her family will relocate to Missouri.

Judge Norton received her law degree from the University of Kansas School of Law in 1984. She began her legal career as a law clerk for Judge John E. Rees of the Kansas Court of Appeals, and then clerked for the now-retired Judge James A. Pusateri, U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Kansas. In 1996 she became a founding member of Grimes & Rebein, where she practiced bankruptcy and commercial law in federal and state courts for more than 20 years.

Judge Norton is a fellow in the American College of Bankruptcy, as well as a 2002 recipient of the Michael R. Roser Award for Excellence in bankruptcy in Missouri, and a 2012 recipient of the Gernon Award for outstanding contribution to continuing legal education in Kansas.
