New Magistrate Judge for E.D. of Missouri: Abbie Crites-Leoni

On Friday, February 28, Abbie Crites- Leoni was sworn in as a U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of Missouri. Her chambers will be in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She fills the vacancy left by Judge Lewis Blanton, who retired in March.

Judge Crites-Leoni received her undergraduate degree from Southeast Missouri State University in 1993, her master’s degree in speech communication from Southern Illinois University in 1995, and her law degree from Southern Illinois University School of Law in 1998.

She began her legal career as an Assistant Prosecutor for the Cape Girardeau County Prosecutor’s Office. From 1999 to 2000 she served as an attorney with the Juvenile Office of the 32nd Judicial Circuit.

In 2000 she became an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri, where she has served until this appointment to the federal bench. As a federal prosecutor, she specialized in drug trafficking, child exploitation, and government fraud crimes.
