Janie S. Mayeron Appointed as Magistrate Judge for District of Minnesota

On February 4, 2003, Chief U.S. District Court Judge James M. Rosenbaum announced the appointment of Janie S. Mayeron to the position of United States Magistrate Judge for the District of Minnesota.

Judge Mayeron was born in Minneapolis. She received her undergraduate degree, with honors, from the University of Minnesota in 1973 and her law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1976. She then went to work for the firm of Leonard, Street & Deinard, where she has focused on employment law and civil litigation. In addition to her work with the firm, she also maintained a mediation practice and was a member of the CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution (formerly the Center for Public Resolution).

She has served the legal community as a member of the American Bar and Minnesota State Bar Associations. She has also served on several Minnesota Supreme Court Advisory Committees and has held the positions of Chair and Council Member of the Minnesota State Bar Association Civil Litigation Section. In addition, she was an appointee to the University of Minnesota Law School Board of Visitors.

Judge Mayeron will fill the position formerly held by John M. Mason, who passed away unexpectedly last year. U.S. Magistrate Judges are appointed to serve a term of eight years and are subject to reappointment to successive terms. Judge Mayeron was sworn in on February 7, 2003, and her investiture took place on March 14, 2003. Welcome, Judge Mayeron!
