New Judge for S.D. of Iowa: John A. Jarvey
On March 8, 2007, the Senate
confirmed the nomination of
U.S. Magistrate Judge John A.
Jarvey as a U.S. District Court
Judge for the Southern District
of Iowa by a vote of 95 - 0.
John A. Jarvey was born in Minneapolis,
Minnesota, in 1956. He received his B.S. in
accounting from the University of Akron in
1978 and his J.D. from Drake University in
1981. He then began his legal career as a law
clerk for Judge Donald E. O'Brien in the
Northern District of Iowa.
From 1983 to 1987, he served as a trial attorney
in the Criminal Division of the Justice
Department, where he focused on narcotic and
dangerous drug cases. In 1987 he was appointed
as a magistrate judge for the Northern District of
Iowa, where he has served until this
appointment as a U.S. District Court Judge.
Judge Jarvey has also been trial advocacy
instructor at Iowa Law School since 1993.
