New Magistrate Judge for District of Minnesota: Steven E. Rau

Steven E. Rau was sworn in as a U.S. Magistrate Judge on Friday, January 14, 2011.

Judge Rau was born and raised in Massachusetts. He received his undergraduate degree from Carleton College in 1978 and his law degree with honors from William Mitchell College of Law in 1983. After graduating he served as a law clerk to Chief Justice Douglas K. Amdahl at the Minnesota Supreme Court from 1983 to 1984. He then joined the firm of Lindquist & Vennum in Minneapolis. Since 2000 he has practiced with the firm of Flynn, Gaskins, Bennett, where he specialized in litigation of employment, business and commercial cases. In addition to his legal practice, he has also served as an adjunct faculty member at William Mitchell College of Law and Hamline University, where he taught courses in antitrust and commercial law. He is currently an adjunct faculty member at the University of St. Thomas Law School.
