New Judge for the Western District of Arkansas: Susan O. Hickey

On October 13, the Senate confirmed Susan O. Hickey as a U.S. District Court Judge for the Western District of Arkansas. She fills the vacancy created when Judge Harry F. Barnes took senior status.

Judge Hickey received her undergraduate degree from the University of Arkansas in 1977 and her law degree from the University of Arkansas School of Law in 1981. From 1981 to 1984 she worked as a staff attorney for the Murphy Oil Corporation in El Dorado, Arkansas. From 1997 to 1998 and again from 2003 to 2010, she served as a career law clerk to U.S. District Court Judge Harry F. Barnes. In 2010 she was appointed as a Circuit Judge for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit for the State of Arkansas in El Dorado, where she has served until this appointment to the federal bench. As a circuit judge for the state, she dealt with civil, criminal, and juvenile cases as well as issues regarding probate and domestic relations.
