Judge Lewis M. Blanton Retires

The Hon. Lewis M. Blanton, U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of Missouri, retired on February 28, 2014. Judge Blanton received his undergraduate degree in 1958 and his master’s degree in 1962, both from St. Louis University. He received his law degree from the University of Missouri School of Law in 1965.

He began his career in private practice at the firm of Thompson, Walther & Shewmaker in St. Louis, Missouri.
From 1969 to 1971 he practiced at Blanton, Rice & Sickal in Sikeston, Missouri, and then with Robison & Blanton in Sikeston until 1978. In 1979 he was elected to the position of Associate Judge for the Circuit Court of Scott County, where he served until his appointment to the federal bench in 1991.
