Eastern District of Missouri Publishes Court's History

And Justice for All: A History of the Federal District Court of Eastern Missouri was written by Burton A. Boxerman and published on September 15, 2014, by the Southeast Missouri State University Press. Mr. Boxerman is a retired teacher of American history and government and holds a Ph.D. from Saint Louis University.

This book was a project of the Eastern District’s Senior Judge E. Richard Webber, who serves on the Board of the Historical Society of the United States Courts in the Eighth Circuit. Judge Webber formed a committee of experts including prominent attorneys who, like himself, are passionate about legal history, and worked with author and historian Boxerman who brought it all to life in words.

The 542 page book begins with a history of the federal judiciary and its selection process. As the story of the Eastern District unfolds, the reader sees photos of the district’s past and present federal judges (district, magistrate and bankruptcy) and courthouses. Also included is an appendix with images of docket sheets from the Dred Scott case, a bibliography, and index.

Two copies of the book are available in the St. Louis Headquarters library. The call number is KF8755 .M55 B69 2014.
