Project HERO Tree in St. Louis

In December, the St. Louis library supported local homeless veterans with a Project HERO Tree. Project HERO was launched in 2008 by the Department of Mental Health, the VA, and our local St. Patrick Center to move homeless veterans to self-sufficiency and community integration.

The partnership focuses on providing veterans with opportunities for housing, employment, and recovery services. The library invited court staff to donate personal care items for the homeless veterans such as soap, toothpaste, lotion, deodorant, work gloves, socks, etc. For each donation, court staff could fill out a name tag and hang it on our HERO tree.

We are happy to report that we received enough donated personal care items to fill two large boxes and then some! A big thank you to all who participated!
