New Bankruptcy Judge for Eastern & Western Districts of Arkansas: Phyllis M. Jones
Chief Judge Riley of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit recently announced the appointment of Phyllis M. Jones as U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern & Western Districts of Arkansas. She will take office on January 7, 2015. She replaces Judge Audrey R. Evans who will retire on December 31.
Judge Jones received her undergraduate degree in accounting from the University of Arkansas – Little Rock in 1992 and her law degree from the University of Arkansas School of Law in 1997 with high honors. Prior to receiving her law degree, she served as a judicial assistant to U.S Bankruptcy Judge James G. Mixon.
She began her legal career as an associate at the firm of Wright, Lindsey & Jennings in Little Rock. In 2002 she joined the firm of Lax, Vaughan, Fortson, Rowe, and Threet, where she has focused on bankruptcy litigation, debtor/creditor litigation, and commercial lending.
In addition to her legal practice, she served as an adjunct professor at the University of Arkansas School of Law where she taught Secured Transactions and Bankruptcy.
