New Interface for the PACER Case Locator

The library’s website links to two access points for PACER:

Individual Court Websites, where you can go directly to a particular court’s PACER site, and
PACER Case Locator, a national index where you can search in specific courts, regions, or across courts.

In late December, the interface for the PACER Case Locator (PCL) was updated. The new login page provides information about the features available in PCL, fees, and case currency. A table of Quick Links on the right points to additional and related information. A PACER FAQ link also now appears at the bottom of every page.
Once you log in to the PCL, the basic search pages allow you to narrow your search by type of court (appellate, bankruptcy, civil, criminal, and multidistrict.) The advanced search pages look most like the previous PCL search interface and allow you to narrow your search by type of court, region (circuit, district, state), and date range. You also have the option to make any of the search pages your PCL home page.
A number of helpful icons appear at the top of your search results that allow you to save a search or a case, sort your results in several ways, limit the displayed results columns, search within results, and download your results. An icon legend is available to illustrate all the various options!
