U.S. Magistrate Judge
Janie S. Mayeron of the
District of Minnesota
retired on February 6,
2017. She was appointed
to the Court on February
7, 2003, to succeed Judge
John M. Mason.
Judge Mayeron was born in Minneapolis in 1951.
She received her undergraduate degree, with honors,
from the University of Minnesota in 1973 and her
law degree from the University of Minnesota Law
School in 1976. Prior to her appointment to the
federal bench, she was a shareholder in the firm
Leonard, Street and Deinard, where she focused on
employment law and civil litigation.
While a litigator, she also maintained a mediation
practice and was a member of the CPR Institute
for Dispute Resolution (formerly the Center for
Public Resolution). In addition, she wrote and spoke
nationally on employment law, products liability, trial
practice, and alternative dispute resolution.
Judge Mayeron served on several Minnesota
Supreme Court Advisory Committees and chaired
the Minnesota State Bar Associationís Section on
Litigation and Committee on Alternative Dispute
Resolution. She was an appointee to the University of
Minnesota Law School Board of Visitors and received
an Alumni Service Award from the University of
Minnesota in 1995.
