New District Judge for the Northern District of Iowa: Leonard T. Strand

On February 11, 2016, the Senate confirmed the nomination of Leonard T. Strand as a district judge for the Northern District of Iowa. He fills the vacancy left by Judge Mark W. Bennett, who took senior status on June 4, 2015.

Judge Strand served as a magistrate judge with the Northern District of Iowa beginning in 2012. Before being appointed to the bench, he practiced law with the firm of Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. His practice focused on commercial law, employment law, and products liability.

Judge Strand received his undergraduate degree with high honors from the University of Iowa in 1987. He received his law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1990, where he graduated first in his class with Highest Distinction and Order of the Coif honors.
