Retirement: Judge Thomas D. Thalken

Judge Thomas D. Thalken of the District of Nebraska will retire on December 31, 2016. He was appointed to the Court on January 4, 1993, succeeding Judge Richard G. Kopf as U.S. Magistrate Judge.
Judge Thalken was born in 1942 in Columbus, Nebraska. He graduated with his bachelorís degree from Creighton University in 1964 and his law degree from Creighton University Law School in 1966.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1970, assigned to posts as Military Attorney, Foreign Claims Commissioner, and Military Judge with the 10th Judicial Circuit in the U.S. Army Judiciary.
In 1970, he was named Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Nebraska. After 11 years in this position, he served as First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Nebraska from 1981 until his appointment to the federal bench in 1993.
He has been active in the Omaha and Nebraska State Bar Associations and has taught criminal law and trial practice at Creighton Law School. Congratulations, Judge Thalken!
