Former U.S. Magistrate
Judge Myles J. DeVine
of the District of
South Dakota died on
November 26, 2016 at
the age of 73.
Myles James DeVine
was born in Britton,
South Dakota, on June
28, 1943. He received
degree in 1965 and his
masterís degree in 1966 from the University of South
Dakota. He received his law degree in 1969 from the
University of South Dakota School of Law.
He began his legal career as a law clerk for U.S. District
Court Judge Axel J. Beck. In 1970 he opened a private
practice in Britton. Later that year, he was elected as
the Marshall County Stateís Attorney, a position he
held for 25 years.
In 1996, he was appointed to serve as a Circuit Judge
for South Dakotaís Fifth Circuit. In 2001 he was
appointed to serve as a U.S. Magistrate Judge for the
District of South Dakota in Aberdeen. He retired from
the bench in early 2008.
Later in 2008, he was elected as County Commissioner
for Marshall County and served in that position until
