New Bankruptcy Judge for
Northern District of Iowa: Maria L.
Oxholm

Maria L. Oxholm was recently appointed as a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Northern District of Iowa. This judgeship was transferred to the Eastern District of Michigan as part of the Bankruptcy Judge Vacancy Pilot Program, so Judge Oxholm will serve in Detroit, Michigan.
Judge Oxholm received her undergraduate degree from University of Michigan at Dearborn in 1985 and her law degree from University of Michigan Law School at Ann Arbor in 1988.
She began her legal career as law clerk for the Immigration Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. From 1989 to 1999, she served as an assistant prosecutor for Wayne County until her appointment in 1999 as a judge for the 36th District Court of Michigan.
In 2002, Judge Oxholm was appointed, and subsequently elected, to the Wayne County Circuit Court, where she served as the Presiding Judge of the Family Division, Civil Division and the Business Court.
