Circuit
Southern District of Iowa Branch |
2001-2002 Branch Activities of the Southern
District of Iowa Branch
of the Historical Society of the
United States Courts in the Eighth Circuit
The branch held its last meeing in June 2001. During that meeting,
the branch decided to hire an archivist to review
papers they hold that might possibly be put on display. Once that is
done, the branch intends to buy a display case from either funds on hand
or some in the Courthouse that may become available to the branch.
In fall 2001, the branch helped sponsor a reception for a lecture given
by the Honorable Loren A. Smith, Judge for the U.S. Court of Claims.
The Judge spoke at Drake University on September 17, 2001 on the topic, "The
Magic Constitution."
The branch is sponsoring a display of the Polk County Bar Association's
Law Day Art and Poetry Contest, and hopes to display some of the entries
in the U.S. Courthouse in Des Moines. The branch is also contemplating updating
the photos of former judges in the Courthouse.
